The Streets

05.07.2003

Live at Miles Davis Hall

"The album Britain has been waiting for". This well-deserved compliment underlines the excellence of the first album (Pirate Original Material) of young Mike Skinner, alias The Streets, an unlikely and versatile artist who puts his finger on reality. 2step, drum'n'bass, soul, hip hop, rock, all types of music are put into Skinner's blender and successfully turned into a precious alloy, a constant stream of strong ideas. The Streets' bleak descriptions relate the ordinary lives of losers and sombre stories of sex over intelligence, catchy beats. (FFJM © 2003)

Whereas Jazz constitutes the Festival’s historic core, other styles of music were quickly integrated into the Festival, bound together by a common thread of mutual curiosity and enthusiasm.
