"We're not the sort of group to have whores and big cars", says DJ Muggs, the man behind Cypress Hill sound. The scene is set: the Los Angeles gang do not go in for G-fuk. No, their trademark is rap-rock. Since 1991, the thick smoke of B-Real, Sen Dog, DJ Muggs and Bobo has mingled just as well with hip-hop underground as with trash metal. Proffering a sound based on funky tones and beats, as well as an enraged flow of smaples, Cypress Hill's records have served as wake-up calls to US rap. It would take an army to hold them back!
